Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyamozhi is holding a meeting of all Principal Education Officers (CEOs) on Tuesday. The minister said in a statement Monday from the office.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the government was considering reopening schools from the ninth to the twelfth grade, and that the school education minister would meet with the chief executive on Tuesday.
However, government sources told IANS that there were differing views on the reopening of schools in Tamil Nadu. While many academics, teachers and policymakers in the education sector are committed to opening schools, the health sector has not shown much interest in it.
Speaking to IANS, a senior education official said, "The government is confused as to whether to resume classes or not. The school education minister wants to ask the chief education officials for their opinion on the condition of the land."
The state school education department last week transferred 37 CEOs and other officials from the education department. The Minister will also discuss with officials on various departments such as the Directorate of State Examinations, the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha and Primary Education.
The Department of School Education has already published the priority curriculum for the current academic year. It takes into account that the schools were still closed and this will have an impact on the number of working days.
